The Joint Committee for Nordic research councils in the Humanities and Social Sciences (NOS-HS) is an organization set up to facilitate strategic cooperation between the research councils in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden in the research fields of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The main purposes of NOS-HS are to enhance the exchange of information between the Nordic research councils and to support and to initiate high-quality, internationally oriented research in the Nordic countries.
NOS-HS focuses its energy and funding on furthering bottom-up research activities and grass-root engagement in research policy. NOS-HS’ preferred instrument for funding high-risk, curiosity-driven research are the exploratory NOS-HS Workshop grants.
Through a sub-board, the Nordic Board for Periodicals in the Humanities and Social Sciences (NOP-HS), NOS-HS supports the publishing of Nordic periodicals of the highest scientific quality.
NOS-HS is led by a board of active researchers.
